Vietnam – Day 2 Hanoi

The title of this post should be “My aching feet”. Another 10 miles walking around Hanoi today.
I went to the Hoa Loa prison, also known as the Hanoi Hilton. John McCain was one of many POWs kept here. The memorial was quite sad as the prison was originally created during the French occupation of Vietnam. As you can see from the photos the conditions were Medieval. Subsequent it was used to intern American POWs. The safest part in the museum was the imagery of the bombings from the US and the human toll. Very graphic and very very sad.
I also visited the main Buddhist temple in Vietnam. This is the headquarters.

Later in the day I visited the Ho Chi Minh memorial. This is a giant gardens both his mausoleum. The museum was closed today, but security still confiscated my knife on the way in. They gave it back on the way out. 😊

Today I also picked up my motorcycle. It’s off to Ha Long Bay tomorrow morning early.
I read somewhere you have to eat the gelato here. This one was chocolate and mint! This morning when I was exercising around the lake I passed by this pone area that smelled like New Orleans. That rank smell associated with beer..I thought. As I walked by, I thought, wow I guess they drink a lot here at night. All was revealed as I walked another 30 yards. There was a gelato establishment. I saw it earlier the day before, packed with people. I didn’t realize the smell was the spilled cream from the gelato.
